Boating holiday and a very cross Andrew

Created by mikesbentley 10 years ago
Aberdeen Cathedral youth club went on a couple of canal boat holidays in England in 1980/81. Andrew reduced his travel costs a lot by getting a job interview in London to coincide with one of them, claiming back the train fares from a company that he had no intention of working for. After a couple of days of narrow-boating he caught a train in Banbury for his interview while we headed South down the canal, with the aim of meeting him up with him again in Oxford at the end of the day. We had to stop about 7 miles North of Oxford as it got too dark; he got the train back from London to Oxford and he walked the 7 miles up the muddy towpath in the dark, without a torch, looking for us. This was before mobile phones so he had no idea where we were. He was VERY cross with us.
